About Us

Who We Are

Mountain State Council of the Blind is a nonprofit, state affiliate of the American Council of the Blind.

What We Do

We provide advocacy and support to our members and their families.  We encourage each person to be as self-sufficient as possible.  We promote democracy to our members.

We work with state and national legislators to encourage promotion of relevant bills and laws that will further enable blind people to be productive, functioning individuals.

To the community, we offer education and information on blindness and accessibility issues that are of concern to people who are blind or visually impaired.  We work with and offer support, especially, to people who are faced with losing their sight.

We are a nonprofit organization.  Our fund-raising helps to purchase adaptive equipment for blind and visually impaired people in need, sponsor members to attend the state and national convention, legislative seminars and other ACB related events, fund a scholarship program for a blind student each year, sponsor various trips for our members and assist the community in education and adaptive equipment needs as we can.

Local Chapters

Presently, we have three local chapters to provide further opportunities for connectivity and social support to members, family and friends.  Our chapters hold meetings, plan activities and work in the communities for the betterment of all visually impaired people.

Tricounty Chapter:  Serving Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties of West Virginia.

Potomac Valley Chapter:  Serves the Romney, Keyser, Morefield and surrounding areas.

Vandelia Chapter:  Serves the Morgantown and surrounding area.

If you would more information on a chapter, please follow that chapter’s link found below on this menu.
