MSCB 2019 CONVENTION ANNOUNCEMENT

Mountain State Council of the Blind convention weekend from September 5 thru 8 is coming soon.  Make your plans now to attend the convention at the Clarion Hotel, Fairmont, WV.  This weekend will offer information, new ideas and fun-filled activities. 
 
Thursday and Friday evenings’ dinner will be on your own.  The Clarion offers a complimentary hot/cold breakfast bar to hotel guests on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.  MSCB will pay for the banquet for those whose PAID pre-registrations and guest rooms are received by August 23.  All pre-registrations with payment received by August 23rd will be entered into a drawing to have their 2020 membership dues paid.
 
MSCB will reimburse up to three nights' hotel costs to the first two  applications received which meet the following eligibility requirements.  The applicants must be blind/visually impaired, and either a nonmember or MSCB member attending the convention for the first time.  Application information is available by contacting Kathy Gerhardt, Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee; phone: (304) 283-7424 or email: kathy39lg@aol.com.  If you qualify for this opportunity, take advantage of the privilege to reduce your weekend expenses.

The convention will be September 5 thru September 8.  Activities begin Thursday evening. Registration packets and program pick up will be from 8:00 to 8:30 PM Thursday evening and 10:00 to 10:30 AM Friday morning.  A Student Seminar will be Friday morning from 9:00 to 11:30 AM.
 
A tour of Prickett Fort for $10 will be available between 12:15 and 4:00 PM.  A box lunch to eat at the Fort picnic area will be provided. 

After you have had your Friday dinner on your own, the annual auction will begin at 7:30 PM.
 
The Saturday Convention Program sessions include an update of activities of the American Council of the Blind; an informative presentation about Fresh Air for Children from New York; the Randolph Sheppard program; WV Schools for the Deaf and the Blind; an interactive demonstration of Blindfold Games and Objective Ed and more.
 
Everyone will enjoy a lunch before the MSCB's annual business meeting which will be Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:30.
 
The banquet with speaker and recognitions will follow at 7:00 PM.  The convention concludes with Sunday breakfast and a post-convention Board of Directors brief meeting.
 
Please donate door prizes to be enjoyed by all.  Bring items for the auction which are new or in good condition (no used clothing).  There is always time to socialize with friends and new acquaintances.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS:

A block of rooms has been held for Mountain State Council of the Blind at the rate of $65 per room per night for as many as four adults in a room, tax exempt.  Two rooms with wheelchair roll in showers are available.  A dog relief area will be designated.  If sharing a room, only one person MUST mail a check or money order for one to three nights to the above MSCB address, or pay online with PayPal.  One person per room MUST reserve the room with the hotel giving each person's name by August 31st.  Reservations received after this date will be accepted if space is available.  No charge will be assessed if cancellations are made before 6:00 PM of the day of arrival.  Be sure to say you are with MSCB.  Check-in time is 3:00 PM and check-out time is 11:00 AM.  Please make payment for your room and registration to MSCB early.  Join us at the Clarion Hotel where there will be something for everyone.

REGISTRATION AND REMINDERS:

Pre-registration and payment of $30.00 for the full weekend and payment of your room must be received by MSCB by August 23 to insure room and meals.  After this date, the hotel may be sold out.
 
Registration packets may be picked up at the following times:

Thursday from 8:00 to 8:30 PM; Friday from 10:00 to 10:30 AM and Saturday from 7:30 to 8:00 AM.  Please bring items for the auction that are new or in good condition (no used clothing).  Please send Debra Cain a list of your auction items and suggested value by August 16th if possible.  Remember to bring cash or checks.  We will be able to accept debit cards on site
